Perlman Music Program · Celebrating 25 Years
Posted Jul 24, 2019 by itzhakperlman

Friends, neighbors and music lovers will be attending the Perlman Music Program gala 25th Anniversary celebration this weekend.

Festivities to honor founders Toby and Itzhak Perlman include a beachfront reception, celebration concert, and dinner with a silent auction on Friday, July 26 at the PMP campus on Shore Road in Shelter Island.

PMP’s story began in 1994 when Toby and Itzhak Perlman arranged a two-week summer program at their home in East Hampton. With the support of donors, Perlman Music Program purchased the former Peconic Lodge property on Shelter Island in 2000.

The Perlman Music Program has expanded to include a spring chamber music workshop, an alumni recital series and music residencies in Sarasota and Israel.

Events in honor of the 25th Anniversary are planned through the summer. PMP alumni are heading to Shelter Island this fall to take part in the Stires-Stark Recital Series.

Students enrolled this year in PMP’s signature Summer Music Program arrived on the Island in late June. They’ll offer free Works in Progress concerts weekly through mid-August.

“Itzhak” Is Available on i-Tunes & Amazon Starting Friday!

“‘Itzhak” documentary will be available for rent/purchase on both iTunes and Amazon starting Friday, July 20, 2018.

“ “Itzhak” is ideal for Perlman fans, but it’s also persuasive enough to create new fans. It’s just impossible not to like this guy” Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle.

From Schubert to Strauss, Bach to Brahms, Mozart to…Billy Joel, Itzhak Perlman‘s violin playing transcends mere performance to evoke the celebrations and struggles of real life; “praying with the violin,” says renowned Tel Aviv violinmaker Amnon Weinstein. Alison Chernick‘s enchanting documentary looks beyond the sublime musician to see the polio survivor whose parents emigrated from Poland to Israel, and the young man who struggled to be taken seriously as a music student when schools saw only his disability. Itzhak himself is funny, irreverent and self-deprecating, and here his life story unspools in conversations with masterful musicians, family and friends, and most endearingly his devoted wife of 50 years, Toby. Itzhak and Toby’s lives are dedicated to their large, loving, Jewish family in NYC and their continual support of young musicians. As charming and entrancing as the famous violinist himself, ITZHAK is a portrait of musical virtuosity seamlessly enclosed in warmth, humor, and above all, love.
