Itzhak Perlman joins the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) for its centennial gala concert presentation of “In the Fiddler’s House” on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. The performance features Klezmer musicians Michael Alpert, Alan Bern, Kurt Bjorling, Judy Bressler, Frank London, Hankus Netzky, Lorin Skamberg, Andy Statman, and The Klezmer Conservatory Band, along with special guests.
The 20th-anniversary return of his highly popular “In the Fiddler’s House” program celebrates the rich tradition of Jewish and klezmer music.
“Klezmer has everything you want, ethnically, and yet it’s so intertwined with American culture,” Paul Morrissett says. “We want to make sure that we are part of a living tradition, and living traditions change; they don’t stay in a pickled form.”
Itzhak Perlman’s PBS Television special Great Performances: In the Fiddler’s House won an Emmy Award in 1995. A recording of the same name was simultaneously released by EMI Classics/Angel, featuring THE KLEZMATICS accompanying Mr. Perlman on his first foray into klezmer. This album has since topped World and Classical music charts internationally, becoming one of the top selling folk albums of the past decade.
